U.S. Hospitality & Gaming Reports Released

Recently Cushman Wakefield released their U.S. Lodging Industry Overview - Hospitality & Gaming Report, authored by Elaine Sahlins. The report details many issues within the lodging industry that developers/owners must consider, such as Supply/Demand and RevPAR changes over the last ten years, top markets in the US, analysis of different types of properties, hotel buying trends and others.

Some of our key takeaways are:

  • Over the last 5 years, Supply and Demand have held pretty true to one another, while RevPAR has dipped

  • There seems to be opportunity for new development in the Boston, Phoenix, San Antonio, NOLA and Nashville markets.

  • Despite some concerns, developers and equity investors are still busy exploring new hotel projects.

  • Operating expenses are increasing, leading to lower RevPAR's, so management must find more efficient ways to offset decreasing bottom lines.
